Day 11 – September 24th, 2017
Today was our first Sunday here in Cabo Verde. We didn’t go to our home church because Mr. Derek was asked to speak at another church and we also helped with the praise and worship time. We sang one song in Creole called “Vencedor” and then we sang “Holy Spirit” by Francesca Batestelli. We’ve been practicing all week and I think we did great. It was a big step out of my comfort zone, but I still enjoyed it so much. Also, a little girl drew a picture of me and gave it to me and it was so sweet. She was very talented and I hope I get to see her again to properly thank her for it!
We went out to eat and I ordered grilled chicken, french fries, and rice. They gave me beans.. they looked like baked beans, but the color was faded.. if that even makes since. Either way, I didn’t eat them. I have learned that if I don’t know what to order, I can always count on grilled chicken and rice.
This evening we went to a bible study at a church “in the interior.” It was just on the backside of the island. We rode in the church van to get there.. We crammed like 18 people in that van and it was such a fun ride. They were jamming the music and singing along, and this was another time when I didn’t understand a word that was being said, but I still genuinely enjoyed the moment. Also, the view was to die for!! We were in the mountains, but you could also still see the ocean and it was just so evident of God’s handiwork.. my love for this place just keeps growing everyday.
We ate at a pizza restaurant for supper and we got dinner and a show.. By that I mean a man tried to eat and leave without paying and apparently he has gotten away with it often. So the management was yelling at him and he was yelling back right on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. It was kind of concerning, but also entertaining. Anyway, Ashlyn and I split a Hawaiian pizza and it was absolutely delicious!!
Speaking of Ashlyn, I am so glad to say that she’s feeling a lot better! Continue praying for her though!!
Tonight we had another family night where we just all hung out and talked about anything and everything. I couldn’t imagine this trip without my team. They make my heart happy.
